Auberge Sahara is established by the brothers of BOURCHOK a few meters away from the sand dunes of the "ERG CHEBBI ' in the famous oasis by the filming of many international movies like : the secrets of the Sahara, Marrakech Express, the operation condor, Lion of the desert,... in this oasis, the highest Palm trees in the area and the beautiful sand dunes that give a beautiful view especially exceptional from the terrace of the hostel where you can see the sunrise and the sunset and where we can also sleep under the open sky completely stars...

"Local oral legend indicates that the construction of the largest erg of the Morocco» erg Chebbi» was punishment of a God for a few rich families who refused to give shelter to a poor woman and her son during a local festival. They were buried in the sand of the storms that formed of large dunes this measures approximately 160 m tall. The sand is good for patients with rheumatism, they bury themselves in the hot sand in the summer for a few minutes.

The family restaurant at Auberge Sahara makes fresh and authentic Moroccan and Berber dishes. We offer tagines, couscous, soups, Berber pizza, grilled meats, salads, omelettes, and many other dishes for lunch and dinner. You can enjoy meals in our restaurant or on the terrace overlooking the dunes. In the morning a delicious full breakfast (buffet for groups) will be served, which includes Moroccan pancakes, bread, coffee, tea, muffins, butter and jam, eggs, yogurt, orange juice, etc ...If you have special diet needs (e.g. vegetarian) please let us know and we will accomodate.

To change the pace and who seeks native and classic accommodation auberge sahara organizes simple bivouacs and luxury at the foot of the dunes of erg chebbi and in the desert.

Imagine guiding a camel as a nomad of the Sahara desert. Cross the Orange sands of the dunes of Erg Chebbi on the back of a Dromedary and choose one of the tours through the dunes we offer. We separate our rides camels in two modes:

1-Spend a night in a nomad tent, Bivouac, in the dunes

You will leave for a few hours for a tour through the dunes during sunset in the fascinating colours. You will be welcomed into our tents, in an oasis, by our staff living in tents in the middle of the desert. Towards the end of your trip, After dinner, You can enjoy the music-related activities. The next morning, After breakfast, you return to the hotel.

2. Several days in the dunes. A nomadic experience

You will explore several sites in the dunes of Erg Chebbi. You will visit different nomadic families during your way and will do many nighttime stops to enjoy the calm and tranquillity. You'll have all the time you need to internalize that the Sahara has to transmit: the stars, animal life, the life of the nomads and the”school” desert. You will mount your camel to cross the dunes and discover the secret of the sand sea. 2 Days Trekking

The trek starts in the morning through the dunes of Erg Chebbi. After lunch cross the rest of the Erg Chebbi Dunes, to spend the night at the home of a Nomadic families, a Typical Dinner (couscous), night under a tent. The morning after the Sunrise have Breakfast and continue the Trekking back in the dunes . lunch in another Oasis and return to the hostel after sunset.

1 Week Trekking

7 Days : the longer is the most exciting of Trekking. To be a true Nomade in some days, to cure the stress of large cities and of modern life, Forget to or you come and leave you melt in the splendour of Desert and Dunes. It is a hiking without technical difficulty notable. It must be in good physical condition and be able to walk 5 to 6 hours each day . at a leisurely pace. You will, along the journey, a lightweight backpack with the strict minimum (Gourde, food of race, camera…). All laggage and the food are transported by the Dromedaries.

2 Nights at the desert

Sunset and Sunrise Camel Trekking

The Sunset sunrize tour begins 1:30 before sunset and sunrize . It takes almost half hour to reach the sand dunes of Erg chebbi on top a camel. Then, we will leave the camels in about 80 meters to reach the highest dune. For those who want to see a panoramic view they must climb to the top, it will takes them another 30 minutes. If you prefer not to hike up the highest dunes, the area around the camel “parking” is perfect to watch the sunset. After having enjoying that short time we travel back to the hotel.

1 Overnight in a Nomad Tent in Bivouac in the Dunes

Our trip into the desert usually starts in the late afternoon and takes about one hour and a half on the back of camels. Before we start out on our journey, we ack our camels with everything we will need from our hotel near the dunes of Merzouga. And we head towards a small oasis taking pictures and enjoying the ride through the goldens sand dunes. When we arrive to our destination, you will climb the high dunes to enjoy the sunset. At night we will serve you a delicious dinner around a big fire while listening to drum music or enjoying the clear sky full of sparkling starts and the soft breeze of the desert caressing your hair. After dinner, you will enjoy you sleep under a nomadic tent. The next morning will start with breakfast in the open air and under a palm tree. After that you will journey in the desert to send unforgettable moments with the nomads and have lunch with them. In the afternoon you will head back to camp site and leave to camels to start enjoying other activities in the dunes, we will take our boards and start sand boarding just like snowboarding but in a more fun way. We will also walk through the dunes, climb one of the highest dunes all over the world and visit some small oases in the middle of the desert just like you may have read in the Coelho’s the Alchemist. And in the evening, we head back to Merzouga to mark the end of the trip.

2 Nights at the desert

Our Overnight Camel Trek start in evening around 5/6 PM, we organise our camel ride for the overnight in desert from a hotel near the sand dunes of Erg-chebbi, The camels will be packed with foods and everything else . The Camel Trek will start right into the Desert for 1h, We will spend the night in the Sahara Desert ,this is a great opportunity to take lovely pictures of the sunset and sunrise , when we arrive at the camp we walk to the high dunes to see the sunset ,It will be a magical night when the sky is clear of cover and stars sparkle and shine with intensity. At night, you will have a wonderful dinner and will spend the night in Nomad Tents .The next day In the morning after the breakfast in the camp we will ride the camels to a nomadic family and spend a night or lunch with them . after lunch we will ride the camels backing to the camp to spend the second night . the next day in morning we will ride the Camel backing to Village after the sunrise, you’ll have the breakfest and shower in the hotel in Merzouga.During this Camel Trekking Tour You will explore several sites of the Dunes of ERG CHebbi.And you will have all the time you need to internalize what the Sahara Desert has to transmit to you: The Stars, Animal Life, the life of Nomads and the « School » of the Desert.

After breakfast , Departure by 4x4 to reach the safsaf Oasis.This full day excursion will take you deep into the hamada of kem kem( plateau),up to Tissradmine oasis and over to Azerkam oasis, you will head towards Safsaf ,it 's one of the most beautiful oasis in the south of morocco, have lunch and in same time you will see how the nomad prepare the lunch meal called Madfouna (cooked under the hot sand, it is a kind of berber pizza) ,in on the way to Merzouga, a chance to meet the differents nomads tribes that keeps the secrets and the wisdom of the desert .

Sand baths

A week to ten days boost your immune system

Sand bath is an ancient Berber technical to cure chronic diseases and joints diseases, muscles and tendons. For the preparation of a sand bath, just an experienced person supervises the operation by digging a hole to measure the size of the patient with a depth generally not exceeding 20 cm. the hole remains open for half an hour to absorb a good amount of heat. Sand baths are beneficial especially for people suffering from rheumatic pains. However, the fact of taking a sand bath without prior medical consultation can turn into a tragedy especially since many deaths were recorded among patients with heart disease.
